What are cysts?
Cysts appear as bumps lying just under the skin surface. They can occur anywhere on the skin but are most commonly found on the scalp, face, neck and upper trunk. They contain a cheesy material so they may look yellow or whitish. Some have a small dark plug which is an exit point for the contents of the cyst.
How can cysts be treated?
They are harmless and can be safely left alone. However, some people would like them removed if they are unsightly, infected or interfering with everyday life such as catching on a comb.
Cysts can be removed by excision under local anaesthetic.
