What is skin surgery?
Skin surgery means a cut to the skin so there are associated risks.
What are the risks in skin surgery?
- Scarring: Every individual heals differently but scarring is possible especially if you are prone to thickened scars or keloids.
- Infection: Minor infections can occur despite good operative technique and care during the healing phase. If the wound becomes infected you may need an antibiotic cream and/or antibiotics by mouth.
- Bleeding: Wounds can sometimes bleed a few hours after the procedure once the local anaesthetic wears off. If this happens, you need to apply firm pressure over the wound until it stops.
- Discomfort: You may have some discomfort a few hours after the local anaesthetic has worn off. This is usually mild but can be relieved with Paracetamol. You should not take Aspirin or Ibuprofen as this thins the blood and make cause bleeding.
