Brown Spots - Freckles
Freckles are small, flat brown marks that appear on sun exposed skin. They are more common in fair skinned individuals and tend to darken with sun exposure and fade in winter.
What causes freckles
Freckles develop when pigment producing cells make more melanin in response to ultraviolet light. They are harmless but indicate a higher sensitivity to sun damage.
When freckles need assessment
Freckles are usually stable, but review is helpful if:
- A mark becomes darker or irregular
- One freckle looks different from the rest
- There is rapid growth or change in outline
Treatment is not medically required but cosmetic improvement can be achieved using:
- Picosure Pro laser
- Sun protection to reduce further pigmentation
