Pyogenic Granuloma

A pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular growth that appears as a rapidly enlarging red lump. It often follows minor trauma, irritation or hormonal changes, including pregnancy. Although harmless, it bleeds easily and can be bothersome.

Features

  • Bright red, smooth or lobulated surface
  • Rapid growth over days or weeks
  • Bleeds easily with minor contact
  • Often occurs on fingers, face or trunk

Because pyogenic granulomas can resemble other vascular or malignant lesions, early assessment is recommended.

Treatment

Treatment options include:

  • Shave excision with cautery
  • Complete surgical removal for recurrent lesions

Treatment provides immediate improvement and reduces bleeding episodes.
