Your first appointment

Your first appointment with Dr Michelle Thomson at The Birmingham Skin Clinic is designed to give you a clear, accurate understanding of your skin concern. The consultation focuses on your symptoms, medical history and any previous treatments, followed by a detailed examination of your skin.

What to expect during your visit

Dr Thomson will discuss your concerns in depth and examine the affected areas. When assessing moles, pigmentation, rashes or lumps, a dermatoscope may be used to examine features that are not visible to the naked eye. This helps guide diagnosis and determine whether further tests or treatments are needed.

If a biopsy, imaging or treatment is recommended, the options and rationale will be explained clearly so you can make an informed decision. You may also be given written information to support the discussion.

What to bring

Bringing the following items can help ensure an accurate assessment:

  • A list of your medications, including creams and supplements
  • Details of any previous dermatology treatments or biopsies
  • Photos of the issue at earlier stages if it has changed over time
  • Your own questions or specific concerns

Your treatment plan

At the end of your appointment, Dr Thomson will outline your recommended plan. This may include medical treatment, skin surgery, laser treatment, follow up monitoring or long term skin surveillance.
